Eyecare Services

Evans & Hughes Optometrists recognise that while the routine eye examination is the foundation of good eyecare, it is not always sufficient to ensure optimum visual performance and to completely minimise the risk of eye disease. our optometrists therefore offer a number of additional examinations designed to meet the specific needs of each patient.

Routine Eye Examination

Available free of charge through the National Health Service when eligible or privately for a small fee. The aim of this examination is to determine your refractive error/spectacle prescription and to detect any ocular abnormalities encountered in the process.

Welsh Eye Care Examination (WECE)

Welsh Eye Care Examination (WECE)

This examination has been specifically designed, by the health advisors to the Welsh Assembly, to detect eye disease in those patients potentially at greatest risk.

You will be entitled to this examination free of charge if your GP refers you or if you are eligible for reasons of personal or family health.

PEARS

The Welsh Assembly have also devised an examination to assist in the care of patients suffering acute eye problems, patients exhibiting certain signs and/or symptoms will be seen urgently free of charge under this new scheme. Please remember to describe any signs or symptoms to our staff, GP or NHS Direct as soon as you are aware of the problem.

Contact Lens Fitting and Aftercare

See our Contact Lens page for more information about this.

Low Vision Assessment

Welsh Eye Care Examination (WECE)

Patients who suffer impaired eyesight and cannot see adequately with standard spectacles or contact lenses may find considerable help from low vision aids.

Our trained optometrists can assess your visual status and prescribe the appropriate optical visual aids free of charge under yet another new Welsh Assembly initiative.

Behavioral Optometric Assessment including Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome

These tests are designed to detect visual anomalies that are sometimes associated with a number of learning or developmental difficulties, the relieving of which has been found to help many sufferers, for example the use of coloured tints or binocular vision correction by some dyslexics.

VDU examination and Industrial/Safety Eye Wear

The provision of eyecare/eyewear to VDU operators and Safety spectacle wearers is governed by health and safety legislation. Evans & Hughes have many years experience in this field and are able to supply a very competitively priced package to individuals or larger groups.

DVLA (Vehicular licence) vision standard assessment

Our practices have Humphrey Visual Field Analysers which are recommended by the DVLA when assessing acceptable visual performance for driving.

Domiciliary Eyecare Examination

If you are unable to attend one of the practices, we may be able to examine your eyes at your home or other convenient location. If you are entitled to an NHS eye test, there is no charge for this service.
